Burnside High School have won the South Island Secondary Schools girls water polo final for the second year running.

They narrowly beat St Margaret's College by one point at Jellie Park today.

A special feat for the local team, as this is the first year that the tournament has been held in Christchurch since the 2011 earthquakes.

Event organiser Ella Vink was pleased with the running of the tournament and said it was special to have it back in Christchurch.

"It's very exciting, first time since the earthquake actually. The only big scale tournament we've had in a very long time," Vink said.

Vink said it was the best standard of water polo she has seen in a long time.

Christ's College defeated Otago Boys High School 14-6 in the boys final.
