Lincoln University and the Department of Conservation are teaming up to meet a desperate need for staff in the parks and recreation sector.

The 'Parks and Recreation' course was run years ago but is being reinstated with seven scholarships funded by DOC.

DOC Director-General Lou Sanson says the class has been brought back because the skills are desperately needed to manage an increase in visitors.

"Good management of our iconic natural landscapes and ecosystems is key to the success of the visitor industry."

Lincoln University Professor Emma Stewart says a higher number of students than anticipated have signed up for the course.
