Council tackles University parking woes

Purposed changes would mean a number of streets become 120 minute zones

A Council purposed by-law could see University of Canterbury parking problems only get worse for students.

The City council is seeking public submissions on a proposed change that would see many streets around the area restricted to 120-minute parking.

"There is a range of issues with parking on the streets surrounding the University of Canterbury and I want to look into different ideas for a solution," City Councillor Vicki Buck said.

Engineering student Rohan Chakrabarti said that students already have enough on their plates.

"Not being able to find a park and having restrictions is a stress we don't need," he said.

Submissions close at the end of the month.
