New Brighton residents have voted to keep the huts locals created.

New Brighton residents have decided to keep five creative Tiny Huts originally designed by locals.

The huts were built and designed to be temporary features for this past summer season, but 82 percent out of nearly 500 New Brighton locals voted to keep them up.

Kim Money, Chair of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board said it was a great option to let the community decide.

"...It was a community project in the beginning and so to actually allow the community to make that decision obviously we felt was a really good thing to do. It's just amazing to see people of all ages enjoying these cute little mini huts," she said.

Money said the huts were originally built to capture the creativity of the community and she was pleased they are staying.
