Taylor's Mistake public toilet is up for a top award  Christchurch City Council

The Taylor’s Mistake public toilet is battling against the best thrones in the country for the title of New Zealand's number one loo.

The annual Keep New Zealand Beautiful Best Loo award has attracted 10 entrants from across the country who all want to be known as best in the business.

A panel of three judges will consider location, cleanliness, facilities, interior/exterior and the environment around the toilet.

Christchurch City Councillor Yani Johanson is responsible for nominating the Taylor's Mistake toilet. He says if something that is seen to be ordinary can be turned into something extraordinary that would make positive difference to the community and city.

He said Christchurch needed to take pride in things like toilets because there was something special about making them environmentally friendly.

The Taylor's Mistake loo has coloured glass art on the exterior to make it more appealing.

Taylor’s Mistake Surf Life Saving Club Captain Tisha Jamieson said the loo was well-used and liked by people who appreciated its design.

It was important for tourist spots and well-used beaches to have appealing facilities.

The 2016 best toilet award was given to a block based across the road from the National Army Museum in Waiouru.
