Canterbury Rugby Union's Chief Executive Nathan Godfrey said the grounds would have a good chance to recover given that next weekend was Easter.
All rugby games had been cancelled, with the exception of the Hawkins Division 1 Premier Competition.
"At the end of the day, we can't control the weather. It's unfortunate but certainly the season will resume in a couple of weeks and we've got a long winter ahead of us."
Godfrey confirmed all other senior and certainly junior rugby on council ground were cancelled, but said they were currently finding grounds for the Hawkins Division 1 Premier Competition.
"All the Hawkins Division matches will go ahead on Saturday as planned and given the weather today, we're really confident that that will be the case."
