A Wellington-based punk trio with dreams of making it big overseas will take the stage for Christchurch fans tonight.

Isaac Lundy, Sean Beales, and Datu Beech makeup the group Mishap, who appear for their first South Island gig tonight at the New City Hotel from 8 pm.

The band got together after discovering a shared passion for pop-punk while they were at Wellington High School.

The gig is part of their self-funded countrywide Hey, Allie! tour, which started last month.

"We are always keen to play in front of new crowds, explore new cities and new bands," said Lundy.

The trio attends performances from other bands regularly to pick up tips and get motivation.

Lundy said there was nothing quite like performing live.

"When we see people get hyped on our music it is such a good feeling," said Lundy.

Lundy said the band wanted to head overseas and play bigger gigs.

"This Summer we would like to play at festivals and to perform some shows in Australia," he said.

"Looking further into the future, we would like to release an album and play shows all over the world."

After playing in Christchurch, Mishap will travel to Dunedin to perform and will finish the tour in Levin on September 15.
