Nineteen-year-old business owner and overseas scholarship recipient Orion Scott will soon be off to France.

Scott successfully won the scholarship to the International Fashion Academy in Paris after applying for an excellence scholarship and going through an interview.

The degree is a three-year Bachelor of Arts majoring in fashion marketing.

"I love design and I love running my business, so for me, this is the next phase in a very exciting chapter. And it just happens to be in the most fashionable city on earth," Scott said.

Scott's business, Orion Kendal, was established in March 2016. It started as an NCEA business studies project, which Scott then continued to run after the assessment was over.

"I like things done my way, which is perfect when you run your own brand because everything you do is a reflection of your soul."

"I strongly believe when working for a company which generates creativity. You have to feel 100 percent in your bones that the whole vibe of the creative process is right in your heart because that’s where the magic is made," Scott said.

Over the years, Scott has worked as an intern for major brands such as Trelise Cooper Ltd and Lonely Hearts.

She was unsure if her business would continue while she was in France, but was far from ready to give up such a big part of her life just yet.

"Who knows where a girl, a sewing machine, and a small business may end up whilst living in Paris."

Scott will leave for Paris at the end of the month to embark on her next chapter.
