A report published by the Animal Law Association says rodeo is a breach of the Animal Welfare Act. The Government doesn't agree.

The report says rodeos deliberately place animals in harm's way, and intentionally inflict pain using spurs and electric prodders, which is a breach of the Act.

Associate Minister of Agriculture, Meka Whaitiri says she's made her position on rodeos very clear and will not consider a ban on rodeos.

Meka Whaitiri says the report will be considered when the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee reviews rodeo practices.
