The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debbie are threatening to develop into a serious situation in the next 72 hours.

Met Service said the worst rainfall is reserved for the North Island Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, the South Island will also experience heavy rain on Wednesday but it should clear on Thursday.

NIWA said some parts of New Zealand will experience a months rain in two-three days.
