Cyclone Debbie's left over 45,000 people in Queensland without power and almost 400 schools and child care centres are closed today.

The Official Bureau of Meteorology said Cyclone Debbie would create areas of heavy rain over the Central Coast, Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields districts today.

Cyclone Debbie is set to head in south-easterly direction tomorrow.

The cyclone is predicted to be the worst to ever hit Queensland.
