The Stags have had a helping hand from Wellington who failed to beat the Auckland Aces. Wellington were beaten by 120 runs in Auckland leaving Central two points clear at the top.
Today is the final day between all teams in the competition, but none of the results will affect the outcome of the table, leaving Central in first place to end the season.
The Stags were set a mammoth 519 runs to win in the final day of their match against Northern Districts. Central start today on 111 runs with the loss of 3 wickets.
Canterbury, however, resume today with a lead of 255 runs and two wickets remaining as they search for a second win to close out their season.
